There will always be those annoying as hell beauty aids on the market that rely on publicity stunts to sell you nothing but crap, and then there will be those that work with hard science and research. Well, it delights me to say that after falling foul of the former most of my adult life, I finally found the Clarisonic Opal Sonic Infusion System with Anti-Aging Sea Serum, which as far as I can see is the dictionary definition of the opposite.

The thing is, I’m not the sort of person to spend at least three hours each day lathering my face in creams and such in the hope that I’ll look young forever – Lord knows that ship has already sailed. However, I’m a firm believer that science is here to help us out and from time to time there comes along a gadget that actually works, instead of just making you smell pretty. I first saw the Clarisonic Opal Sonic Infusion System with Anti-Aging Sea Serum at the home of my friend who had been using it for months and once I mentioned it, she would not stop raving about it for hours.

Given the fact that it was only $185 and I’ve seen creams on offer for more than this, I thought there was no harm in giving it a go…so I did. Here I am a few weeks later and I can tell you that the difference it has made already is noticeable and getting better by the day. The tone of the skin on my face is looking decidedly more even than it has in years, I can see small wrinkles disappearing by the day and even some of the larger…let’s call them creases…aren’t looking as tragic.

The science is pretty baffling but I can only assume that’s why it works – it gives your skin what it needs rather than trying to rely on some bizarre cactus juice and hoping for the best. I’m gob smacked by the difference it has made already and would highly recommend it to anyone in a heartbeat.

Pros: As mentioned above, the main pro is that it isn’t a trick – it’s a device that works in the way your body needs to help reduce the signs of aging and build lasting results. And it’s fast – I’ve only had it for a few weeks and the difference is extraordinary.

Clarisonic Mia:

I purchased the Clarisonic Mia Starter Kit in the summer of 2012. The kit came with a Clarisonic Mia cleaning system in Peony pink. It also included a travel bag, charger cord and an extra brush head. The kit also came with two small travel tubes of Clarisonic brand face washes. I was able to find a great deal from an upscale department store; I got the kit as an online exclusive during their annual Friends & Family sale. The kit did come with two brush heads for sensitive skin. This is great for most customers, but I have oily skin that is subject to blackheads, so I had to purchase separate brushes since I didn’t get good results from the ones provided with the kit.

The Clarisonic takes a full 24 hours to charge when the battery is fully depleted. When you use the product, the instructions say to do 30 seconds on the forehead, 30 seconds on the nose and chin, and ten seconds on each cheek. The Clarisonic is actually set to operate in intervals so you don’t have to time it yourself. You just use the product on the specified part of your face until it beeps, then move on to the next area. This is great for those who like to use the Clarisonic in the shower.

The cleansing washes provided with the kit were great; however, they are a bit pricy. I did learn that you can use whatever face wash you like with the Clarisonic, so I purchase something from a different brand. I save money and still get the same results. It’s also important to moisturize with a very thin layer of moisturizer after you use the Clarisonic. Again, you can use the moisturizer of your choice, it’s not necessary to use the Clarisonic branded products.

Pros: The Clarisonic Mia is great for removing dirt from pores. My skin is clear and smooth now. There are no clogged pores, nor do I have any breakouts any more. I have also been able to cut down on the use of other products, such as toners and astringents.

Cons: The only con with this product is the cost of the brushes. They run around $20 for two or $70 for four. Clarisonic states that brush heads should last three months each, but I usually toss mine after a month so I’m not using a dirty brush head.

Other Info: Clarisonic items can be purchased from most upscale department stores and cosmetic stores. Prices vary; there are always coupons and specials going on, so it’s best to shop around before you buy.
