I was browsing the web late one night looking for different types of furniture, since we are planning on moving soon and I want to just start all over with some new furniture. But, most new furniture looks like it was made by someone who had no idea what he was doing and doesn’t have any real style about it and is so expensive. I have been looking for an Ottoman for months, so I looked up their Ottoman section. Wow, I was really impressed – they will send you free swatches, so you can pick out your color and material. How many websites do that – not many I doubt! The Ottoman that was being featured was simply gorgeous! The color is bluish tweed that on the website looked great to me. There is a 4-week lead-time, meaning that it would take 4 weeks before it was ready for shipping. The four legs had a choice of stain – I picked walnut.

I decided that I would order this Ottoman before I move and certainly before ordering any other furniture from them. If they really are building the entire thing in the United States, I just might really be interested in them. Then I discovered a video on the site that showed them actually making the Ottoman that I was interested in – and indeed it is all handmade.

I finished my order just hoping that I was not wasting my money. In four weeks, the Ottoman was delivered and it is a stunning piece of furniture. Built so well – it could probably end up being a family heirloom - it could last for years. Very easy to clean – I have a cat and cat hair was easy to get off and the first week I spilled a drink on it and it cleaned up perfectly. My son came over to visit and immediately propped his big dirty boots on it, and that hardly soiled the fabric and it came off quickly.

This is a beautiful piece of furniture – and I was struck by the detail that it took to make this piece of furniture. Just as furniture was built years ago, the base was hand-tooled, so it had that look of high quality. A truly stunning piece of furniture! Wow, I am ready to throw everything out and order everything new from this company!!

Pros: Well built, handmade, durable, fabric is beautiful, easy to clean, cat friendly, delivery on time when company said to expect it, 4-week lead time since Ottoman was handmade, have up to a year to return for any reason, they paid shipping cost both ways.

User Rating: (5 out of 5) I selected the Kennedy chair because I was designing a vintage room and wanted something to tie the old in with the new. This look was perfect for my needs. The sharp angles of the armrests and legs contrast nicely with the right angle of the chair, creating a lot of visual interest from every angle. The chair is very comfortable to sit in and takes on the wear and tear of frequent use with ease. You can easily keep the chair clean and do not have to flip the cushions because they do not lose their shape with frequent use.

How does it look? I selected the walnut stain with the Cordova Eclipse fabric. The two colors work together very well and create a cozy look for the chair. The fabric includes flecks of several different shades of gray, so it hides dust and smudges well until you have a chance to clean it. I’ve found that you do not have to scrub very hard to keep the chair clean, even if moisture or other products get on the fabric. The Wood keeps its luster and does not show smudges or fingerprints, which keeps it looking like new.

The angles of the chair are what make the piece so unique. The main body of the chair has several right angles, including those of the cushions, which are contrasted by very sharp angled armrests. The overall effect is stunning. You can approach the chair from any side and get a whole new perspective on the design. Though the design is fairly minimalist, there are a lot of interesting points that make it look complex and interesting. Even if this chair is not your style, it is easy to appreciate the carpentry that went into making it.

How does it perform? I need to be conscious about the placement of my chair. Because of the sharp angles on the back legs, it cannot be backed up to a wall. However, I feel that this kind of furniture is best set in a place where people can appreciate the design from every angle. That said, I would avoid placing this chair into a walkway to avoid someone catching themselves on the thrusting armrests. The angles of the chair are not sharp and should not cause injury, but this can be off putting, nonetheless.

I could not be more satisfied with Thrive’s delivery and sale policy regarding the Kennedy chair. The chair arrived within the scheduled delivery time with absolutely no issue. The piece was in prime condition and showed absolutely no sign of wear and tear after it was moved. If you do have a problem with your chair, there is a full year return policy that is very generous on paper, but I cannot speak to how well it plays out in reality, as I am more than satisfied with my purchase and have no need to make a return. With the lifetime warranty included on my chair, I doubt I will have a problem in the future.
